Crofters on the march – my rather dramatic title for a short talk I did in recently as part of the mini All About that Place online event. My talk focused on crofters from North Walls and Brims, Orkney, Scotland, and their applications for a fair rent following the Crofters Holdings (Scotland) Act 1886.. The title was inspired by an article in the John O’ Groat Journal, the Caithness newspaper, in March 1887.
You can hear my short talk here. It’s by no means the final version. I’m working on developing a longer and more comprehensive talk on the Crofters Commission and related records for family history. Feedback and other comments welcome.
PS Ignore the image – there was no band! Added simply to draw attention though the results of the crofters’ march were fairly dramatic and worthy of a band.
